Consent letter for a child travelling abroad – free template (Ireland)

If a child travels abroad with only one parent or with another adult, carry a signed consent letter from the other guardian(s) with their contact details and a copy of their passport. Irish immigration officers may ask for it, as may the destination country. If surnames differ, also bring the birth or adoption certificate. Some countries want the letter witnessed by a solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths.

Legal basis: Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, s. 16 (abduction of a child by a parent); Guardianship of Infants Act 1964; Irish Immigration Service guidance on minors travelling · Legal position: October 2026
