Bill of sale for a car or other item ("as is") – free template (US)
A bill of sale records a private sale. Writing "as is" makes clear that you give no warranty on condition. For a vehicle, sign the title over to the buyer, record the odometer reading and check your state DMV for its own form, release of liability and plate rules. Some states require the bill of sale to be notarized.

Selling "as is" means you give no warranty about the condition. You still may not lie about known defects. A few states limit "as is" sales of cars.

For a vehicle, the seller signs the certificate of title over to the buyer and, for most vehicles, writes down the odometer reading. Many states also want a release of liability sent to the DMV.
